61/100 The Book of the Dead is used to present an anthology of H.P. Lovecraft stories. It's low budget, there's nothing particularly complex or profound about the stories and, if it weren't for the gore, it'd be easy to mistake this film as a made-for-TV movie. However, I thought it came off rather well. The overacting gave it a surreal quality (including overacting master, Jeffrey Combs), the gore was sufficiently squishy and the creatures were definitely Lovecraftian in nature ...especially Cthulhu. Very entertaining. -- DrNostromo.com
