Biography

Vasilis Katsikonouris was born in 1960 in Kilkis. He has lived in Athens since he was twelve years old. He studied English Literature at the University of Athens and works as a teacher in Secondary Education. In 1990 he wrote his first play, "Totally Unworthy", which about ten years later, in 2001, was awarded at the Onassis Foundation International Competition and in 2004 was presented at the Stoa Theater directed by Yannis Anastasakis (P. Orkopoulos, Eva Kaminari, Th. Papageorgiou, Evd. Souvatzi, P. Polykarpou, Il. Katevas, Eir. Heliou, D. Theodorou, Al. Kouros). In the same year, the play "California Nrimin" (1st State Award for Play 2002) was presented at the National Theatre in the Experimental Stage, directed by Takis Tzamargias, with Demosthenis Eleftheriadis, Stathis Mantzoros, Evi Saulidou, Katerina Fotiadis. Previously, in 1999 and 2002, the plays "Thin Line" and "Babouska" by the Quanta Group had been presented, respectively. In 2006, he received the 3rd State Award for Play for "Fanela" and in February of the same year, he began, directed by N. Mastorakis, the performances of "To γάλα" at the National Theatre (New Stage - Chora Theatre), where it continued for the next season. His works were presented in Germany (2006, European Drama Festival, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt), in Belgrade (2008-09-10, Belgrade Drama Theatre), in Warsaw (2009-10, Kamienica Theatre) and in Cyprus (2007-2009 Open Theatre, Dionysos Theatre and 2009-10 Epigonoi Theatre).
