Biography
Originating from Bangladesh, Shakib Hossain pursued his passion for storytelling at the University of Dhaka’s Department of Television, Film and Photography. His decision to study filmmaking was born out of a deep love for cinema, a path he chose over many others.
Shakib’s journey began in 2014, when as a sixth grader he developed a nightly ritual of watching one film before bed. Over time, movies became his emotional anchor, motivating him through difficult moments. One film in particular, Seven Pounds (2008), profoundly shaped his outlook: its message of self‑sacrifice revealed to him the true power of cinema—not just to entertain, but to inspire people to become better human beings. That realization solidified his decision to dedicate his life to filmmaking.
First and foremost a film enthusiast, Shakib’s love for movies fuels his work as a Director, Cinematographer, and Editor, giving him a unique understanding of the art form. His projects span short films, documentaries, and socially conscious works, often blending striking visuals with narratives that challenge perceptions and spark dialogue.
His debut short film, The Call, earned him Best Director and Best Cinematographer at the 1st TFP Creative Excellence Awards, organized by the Department of Television, Film and Photography, University of Dhaka.
