The story
Amar and Prem are two small-town daydreamers who live with their fathers and dream of getting rich quickly. When they hear that Raveena Bajaj, daughter of the London-based millionaire Ram Gopal Bajaj, is coming to India to find a husband, each sets out on his own to win her over and claim a share of the family fortune. Their paths cross on a bus to Ooty, where they realise they have the same plan, and the two rivals start trying to outwit each other to get inside the Bajaj household.
Spoiler-free: only the set-up.

Background
Rajkumar Santoshi wrote the film with Dilip Shukla, and Vinay Kumar Sinha produced it; Sinha approached Santoshi after his debut film Ghayal (1990). Shooting stretched over more than three years, and some planned roles changed along the way: Amrish Puri's part was cut for length, and Shakti Kapoor played the villain Gogo after Tinnu Anand had date conflicts. Govinda appears as himself, and Paresh Rawal plays a double role.
The film opened in cinemas on 4 November 1994 and did not do well commercially at the time, which Wikipedia attributes partly to weak publicity and competition from other releases. It received four nominations at the 40th Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, but no wins. Its reputation grew in later years, and it is now widely described as a cult classic. A restored 4K version returned to cinemas on 25 April 2025.
