The story
Eight boys in Chandan Nagar, a housing colony in Mumbai, call themselves the Chillar Party. They keep losing cricket matches to the neighbouring team and look after a dog named Loose Motion. When an orphan boy, Fatka, arrives to wash the society's cars with his dog Bhidu, the gang first tries to drive them away, then slowly becomes friends with him. Their peace ends when a minister announces a drive to remove stray dogs from residential buildings, and the children must win over their own society to keep Bhidu.

Who it suits
A gentle comedy built around child actors, a street dog and a battle with a politician, running a little over two hours. Prime Video lists it as U (suitable for all ages), so it works well for families with primary-school children and up.

Background
Chillar Party was the directorial debut of Nitesh Tiwari and Vikas Bahl, who conceived the story; Vijay Maurya wrote the screenplay and dialogues. UTV Spotboy produced it with Salman Khan's SKBH Productions, with Ronnie Screwvala and Salman Khan as producers. Amit Trivedi composed the music, and Ranbir Kapoor makes a special appearance in the song "Tai Tai Phish". Shashank Shende, Pankaj Tripathi and Swara Bhasker play supporting roles around the young cast.
UTV Motion Pictures released the film in Indian cinemas on 8 July 2011. At the 59th National Film Awards it won Best Children's Film and Best Screenplay (Original), and its child actors shared the Best Child Artist award. Bollywood Hungama's Taran Adarsh gave it 3.5 out of 5, and NDTV's Saibal Chatterjee gave it 3 out of 5. Tiwari later directed Dangal (2016).
