The story
In December 2012, a young woman and her male friend are found badly injured on a roadside in South Delhi after being attacked on a moving bus. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vartika Chaturvedi takes charge of the case and hands it to a small group of officers she trusts. With few leads, little sleep and the whole city watching, her team has to trace the bus and identify the men responsible. Meanwhile protests grow, the media leaks details and politicians turn up the pressure on the police. Shefali Shah plays Vartika.

Netflix rates it A, and season 1 deals directly with a real gang rape and murder case, with disturbing descriptions of the assault, so it is strictly for adults. Viewers who follow true-crime investigations and procedural detail more than action will find the most in it.

Background
Season 1 is based on the investigation into the 2012 Delhi gang rape. Writer-director Richie Mehta developed it after talks with former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, who gave him access to the investigation records. The first two episodes premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, and the seven-episode season was released on Netflix on 22 March 2019.
In November 2020, Delhi Crime became the first Indian series to win the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series. Season 2, about crimes linked to the Chaddi Baniyan gang, followed on 26 August 2022 with five episodes, and it earned Shefali Shah an International Emmy nomination for Best Actress. Season 3, with six episodes, premiered on 13 November 2025. It is inspired by the 2012 Baby Falak case and follows Vartika's team into human trafficking, with Huma Qureshi joining the cast. Tanuj Chopra is also credited as a director on the series. Watch season 1 first, although each season covers a separate case.
