The story
Set between 1991 and 2001, the film mixes documentary footage and fiction across two strands. One follows a young Indian cricket team under intense national attention. The other follows Tara, a girl growing up in a conservative, patriarchal family. Sourav Ganguly's shirt-waving celebration after the 2002 NatWest final at Lord's becomes the moment that inspires Tara to question the limits placed on her and find her own voice.

Background
Doosra is directed by Abhinay Deo (Delhi Belly). Agnello Dias wrote the story and screenplay, Ram Sampath composed the score, and it is produced by Masha and Rohan Sajdeh under RDP Production. Plabita Borthakur plays Tara, with Ankur Vikal and Samidha Guru as her parents. The film was made several years ago (PTI interviewed Deo about it in 2019) and has waited for a theatrical release.
The trailer came out on 12 October 2026 with a 23 October theatrical date, and Anil Kapoor and Rohit Sharma both praised it publicly, according to IANS and Gulf News. Wikipedia names PVR Inox Pictures as distributor. NewsBytes reported that the CBFC gave it an A certificate after Deo declined cuts that would have earned U/A. No streaming partner has been announced.
