The story
A journalist's banned book about the Kolar Gold Fields frames the story of Rocky, a boy born into poverty in 1951 who promises his dying mother he will become rich and powerful. Growing up on the streets of Bombay, he becomes a feared enforcer. Meanwhile crime lord Suryavardhan has secretly turned the gold fields into a brutal empire run by his family and allies. When Rocky takes a job that sends him into that world, he faces its rulers. Yash plays Rocky, with Srinidhi Shetty and Ramachandra Raju.
Spoiler-free: only the set-up.
Who it suits
A good fit for anyone who likes stylised gangster epics about greed and power, and the natural starting point before Chapter 2. Despite the U/A rating, it has heavy violence, including killings and scenes of brutal forced labour.
