The story
The series takes the Student of the Year franchise away from college romance and rivalry and into mystery and danger behind the gates of St. Theresa. The teaser opens on campus life and then cuts to a blood-stained Shanaya Kapoor and a morgue, hinting at two identities whose connection has not been revealed. Karan Johar's announcement called it 'gritty, gory, unabashed and absolute madness'.
Spoiler-free: only the set-up.
Who it suits
Pitched at young-adult viewers who like dark campus thrillers rather than the feel-good tone of the films. JioHotstar has not yet published its age rating, and the teaser's blood and morgue imagery suggest it is not for children.

Background
Student of the Year: After Dark is the third instalment of the franchise that began with Student of the Year (2012) and continued with Student of the Year 2 (2019), reimagined as a long-form series for JioHotstar's Hotstar Specials label. Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment produces, and Reema Maya, a two-time Sundance-nominated short-film maker, directs. Shanaya Kapoor makes her streaming debut and is reported to play a double role.
In September 2026 reports said the third film had been reworked into a web series for JioHotstar. Johar unveiled the title and teaser on 19 October 2026, the original film's anniversary, with a premiere date of 13 November 2026. Other cast members and the episode count have not been officially announced.
