The story
Masked vigilantes murder a string of men in Chennai, among them two narcotics officers and Karnan, an ageing ordinary man who seems an unlikely target. Police Commissioner Jose brings in Amar, the leader of a secret black-ops squad, to find the killers. As Amar digs into Karnan's life of drink and late nights, he finds threads leading to missing drug containers and to Sandhanam, a ruthless dealer who answers to a feared boss. Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi lead the cast.

Who it suits
Made for viewers who enjoy dense, multi-character action thrillers and want to follow Lokesh Kanagaraj's connected universe after Kaithi. The U/A rating understates it: expect gunfights, beheading and drug-gang brutality across nearly three hours.

Background
Vikram is the second instalment of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, after Kaithi (2019), and characters from that film return here. It also takes its title and lead character from Kamal Haasan's 1986 film Vikram. Haasan produced it through Raaj Kamal Films International.
The film opened in cinemas on 3 June 2022, with dubbed versions in Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam; the dubs carried the title Vikram Hitlist. Star India bought its satellite and digital rights. It began streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on 8 July 2022 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, and on ZEE5 from 13 September 2022. The Hindi version had its television premiere on Star Gold on 24 September 2022.
Worldwide gross estimates range from ₹424 crore to ₹500 crore. Hindustan Times reported that by the end of its 113-day run it had become the highest-grossing film ever in Tamil Nadu.
