The story
Bitti Mishra is an outspoken young woman in Bareilly who keeps scaring off the men her parents line up for an arranged marriage. Running away after one more rejection, she buys a novel called *Bareilly Ki Barfi* at the station and finds that its heroine is just like her. She returns home determined to meet the author, Pritam Vidrohi. The trail leads to Chirag Dubey, who runs the printing press that published the book. He tells her the author has left town but offers to carry her letters to him.

Background
Bareilly Ki Barfi is adapted from French author Nicolas Barreau's novel The Ingredients of Love, with a screenplay by Nitesh Tiwari and Shreyas Jain. Javed Akhtar narrates. It was produced by Junglee Pictures and BR Studios.
The film opened in India on 18 August 2017, over the Independence Day weekend. Wikipedia reports a worldwide gross of about ₹60 crore against a budget of ₹20 crore, and the film ran for more than 70 days. Critics singled out Rajkummar Rao's performance. At the 63rd Filmfare Awards it received eight nominations, including Best Film, and won Best Director for Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Best Supporting Actor for Rajkummar Rao. The film was re-released in cinemas on 7 February 2025.
The soundtrack, released by Zee Music Company, includes "Sweety Tera Drama", "Nazm Nazm" and "Twist Kamariya". It is a standalone film, not part of a series.
