The story
Lathin Kumar, known as Kuttan, is 35 and finally about to marry Sharmila, a woman he can hardly believe has agreed to be his wife. He worries all day that the wedding guests will mock him as a poor match for her. That night, masked men burst in, kill Kuttan and carry Sharmila away. Kuttan then wakes up in his own bed on the morning of the wedding and lives through the same day again. As a comet passes over Kerala, he keeps trying new ways to change what happens and make it through to his wedding night.

Who it suits
A light pick for viewers who enjoy Malayalam comedies and time-loop stories like Groundhog Day. Netflix rates it U/A 16+, and it runs about two hours; there is comic violence and some humour around romance and pursuit that suits older teens and adults better than children.

Background
Dhoomakethu is a Malayalam time-loop comedy directed by Sudhi Maddison, his film after Neymar, and written by Soni Babu Antony and Manu Madhusoodanan. Happy Hours Entertainment and A & HS Production produced it, with Ankit Menon composing the music. Filming finished in February 2026, and when the first-look poster came out in July some viewers took it for AI art, so the makers released a behind-the-scenes video.
The trailer came out on 19 September and the film opened in Kerala cinemas on 25 September 2026. Reviews were mixed: The Hindu said the time-loop humour works in parts, and The Indian Express gave it 2.5 out of 5, praising the cast but finding the pacing repetitive. Less than a month later, on 23 October 2026, it began streaming on Netflix in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
