The story
After his mother dies, thirteen-year-old Lakshminarayan Sharma leaves his home in Akbarpur, convinced that only Lord Rama can reunite them and that the way to Rama runs through Hanuman. At a temple in Rajkot an old mahant notices the quiet boy and tests him, but Lakshminarayan turns down comfort and praise and moves on. For years he wanders, meditating under trees, sleeping beside rivers and living on alms, meeting Nath yogis and Naga sadhus along the way.

Background
Hanuman Ansh is the first part of a planned trilogy based on director Vishal Chaturvedi's spiritual memoir Divine Detour: That Changed My Life, and follows Neem Karoli Baba from his childhood to his youth. It was shot mainly in Chitrakoot on a budget of about ₹2 crore, and the CBFC passed it U on 3 July 2026.
It opened on 7 August 2026 on about 250 screens and earned only ₹90 lakh in its first week, then grew through word of mouth until Cinépolis India had widened it to more than 2,000 screens. It crossed ₹100 crore at the Indian box office, and Wikipedia's list of 2026 Hindi films ranks it among the year's four highest grossers. Hombale Films released it overseas on 11 September. Uttarakhand made it tax-free in September. A second instalment is in development. As of late October 2026 no streaming deal had been announced.
