The story
Long before they meet Gru, a tribe of Minions is still searching for the perfect villain to serve. Chasing what they think is a bank robber, they stumble onto a Western film set in Old Hollywood, where studio bosses are charmed by their antics and turn them into silent-movie stars. When talking pictures arrive and the Minions cannot keep up, the artistic Minion James and his friends set out to make a monster movie of their own, with spectacularly messy results.
Spoiler-free: only the set-up.
Who it suits
An easy pick for families with young children and for anyone who has followed the Despicable Me films. It runs about an hour and a half; the British board rated it U, and the humour is slapstick with cartoon monsters rather than real scares.
