The story
Murli Prasad Sharma, known as Munna Bhai, runs an extortion racket in Mumbai with his loyal sidekick Circuit. Every year, when his parents visit, he turns his hideout into a fake charitable hospital so they believe he is a doctor. The act collapses when his father meets Dr Asthana, the rigid dean of a top medical college, who exposes Munna and humiliates his parents. Stung, Munna vows to become a real doctor and gets himself admitted to Asthana's own college, where his unorthodox, warm-hearted ways soon clash with the dean's rules.

Who it suits
Works well for families and viewers who like warm comedies with a message about compassion over rules. The gangster hero means some fights, threats and comic violence, and the film runs over two and a half hours.
