The story
Abhishek Tripathi has just finished his engineering degree in the city, but the only job he lands is a low-paid post as secretary of the gram panchayat office in Phulera, a remote village in Uttar Pradesh. He plans to study for the CAT and leave as soon as he can. Until then he must work with the elected pradhan Manju Devi, her husband Brij Bhushan Dubey, who runs things on her behalf, and office assistant Vikas, while dealing with power cuts, village politics and small daily disputes he never expected to handle.
Spoiler-free: only the set-up.
Who it suits
A gentle, slow-paced comedy for viewers who enjoy small-town settings and everyday humour over action. Prime Video rates it U/A 16+ for tobacco and alcohol use, foul language and some violence, so it works for older teens and adults watching together.

Background
Panchayat was created by The Viral Fever (TVF) for Prime Video, written by Chandan Kumar and directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, with Akshat Vijaywargiya also credited as director. Mishra has said he drew on Doordarshan classics such as Malgudi Days. Although set in Uttar Pradesh, it was shot at a real panchayat office in Mahodiya village, Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh.
Season 1 (eight episodes) premiered on 3 April 2020. Season 2 arrived on 18 May 2022, two days ahead of its announced date, Season 3 on 28 May 2024 and Season 4 on 24 June 2025. In July 2025, TVF and Prime Video announced a fifth season for 2026; Prime Video's India page currently lists four seasons. At the inaugural Filmfare OTT Awards, the show won several awards in the comedy category. TVF has remade it in Tamil as Thalaivettiyaan Paalayam (2024) and in Telugu as Sivarapalli (2025).
