The story
In 1994, Peddi lives in a poor, unrecognised tribal hamlet in the Vizianagaram region of Andhra Pradesh, whose people face discrimination and exploitation from powerful landlords. He earns money playing cricket in local tournaments, where he has never lost, and falls in love with Achiyamma, a local politician's daughter. Years later, a sports ministry official notices young athletes in the area who all credit their inspiration to Peddi, and sets out to learn his story.

Background
Peddi is an original story, not based on a real athlete. Its hero moves from cricket to wrestling and later to para-athletics. Vriddhi Cinemas produced it, with Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings presenting, and A. R. Rahman composed the songs and score.
The film opened in cinemas on 4 June 2026, releasing at the same time in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam. Netflix began streaming it on 9 July 2026. Wikipedia reports a budget of ₹300–350 crore, an opening day of ₹135.36 crore worldwide, and a worldwide gross estimated between ₹330 crore and ₹400 crore. That made it the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2026. The director later said some scenes involving the female lead would be modified or removed, so the cut you see may differ from the theatrical version.
