The story
Surinder 'Suri' Sahni is a shy, mild-mannered employee of Punjab Power in Amritsar. After a sudden tragedy, he marries Taani, the lively daughter of his old professor, but she is grieving and tells him she can never love him. Suri treats her kindly yet cannot express his feelings. When Taani joins a dance class to bring some excitement into her life, Suri's friend Bobby helps him turn into 'Raj', a loud, fun-loving character, who signs up for the same class and becomes her dance partner.

Who it suits
A clean, sentimental romcom for families and Shah Rukh Khan fans, with dance numbers and a gentle message about everyday love. It runs close to three hours and has very little that would worry parents.

Background
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was written and directed by Aditya Chopra, his first film as director in eight years after Mohabbatein (2000). Yash Chopra produced it under Yash Raj Films. It was Anushka Sharma's film debut, and Salim–Sulaiman composed the music. Pre-release promotion was limited because of worries about cinema attendance after the November 2008 Mumbai attacks.
The film opened worldwide on 12 December 2008. Wikipedia reports a worldwide gross of about ₹157.9 crore, which made it the highest-grossing film of Yash Raj Films and of Shah Rukh Khan at the time. It was also the year's highest-grossing Hindi film overseas. At the 54th Filmfare Awards it led with ten nominations and won two: Best Male Playback Singer for Sukhwinder Singh's 'Haule Haule' and Best Scene of the Year. The Academy's Margaret Herrick Library also added the script to its collection.
