This list is for nights when you want to come away from the screen in a better mood than you started. It covers comedies that rely on mix-ups and sharp dialogue, friendship and romance films full of travel and songs, and uplifting family stories about underdogs and kindness.
Every pick has a Hindi audio track, original or an official dub, and each was checked on the platform's Indian app or website; the check date appears on each title page. Several are free to stream on YouTube or Prime Video. Within each group, films are ranked by how reliably they deliver warmth and laughs with the fewest heavy moments, and each note flags anything darker, such as grief, drinking or fight scenes.
On certificates: U is for all ages and U/A suggests parental guidance; some older films have no certificate listed on our pages, so the notes describe their content.

When you want to laugh without thinking too hard, this delivers: three broke men in a Mumbai garage, a crossed phone line and Paresh Rawal's Baburao. It runs 138 minutes and is free on the Goldmines Bollywood YouTube channel. The plot involves a kidnapping and ransom, played for comedy, with some comic peril. Readers of The Indian Express once voted it the best Bollywood comedy.

Andaz Apna Apna

Two rival daydreamers scheming for a millionaire's fortune makes for silly, endlessly quotable fun, and Aamir Khan and Salman Khan bounce off each other well. It struggled on release in 1994 and became a cult favourite over the years. It runs 160 minutes, has no certificate listed on our title page, and is free with ads via the MX Player channel on Prime Video.

Laapataa Ladies

Feel-good with substance: a bride mix-up on a crowded train turns into a warm comedy in which small kindnesses matter. Rated U/A and only 124 minutes, it is one of the shorter picks here, which helps on a weeknight. It touches on domestic abuse, but the tone stays hopeful. Good for viewers who want something funny that also gives them something to think about.

A road trip from Delhi to Kolkata with a grumpy father, his exasperated daughter and a reluctant taxi owner gives this film its comfortable, lived-in warmth. Rated U/A at 122 minutes, it is talky and low-stakes, ideal for unwinding. Amitabh Bachchan won the National Film Award for Best Actor and Deepika Padukone won Filmfare's Best Actress for it. Expect plenty of toilet humour.

Scenery, Javed Akhtar's poetry and easy banter keep the mood light and lifting. Rated U/A and 154 minutes long, it has drinking, flirting and some adult jokes, so it works best for teenagers and grown-ups looking for a lift.

A jilted bride heading off alone on her honeymoon sounds sad, but Kangana Ranaut turns it into a cheerful self-discovery story set in Paris and Amsterdam. It runs 146 minutes and suits anyone who needs a confidence boost. There is drinking, nightclubbing, sexual references and some swearing, so it is more for adults and older teens than for a family evening.

Jab We Met

Geet's chatter and energy carry this train-and-road romance, which is why many viewers return to it when they need cheering up. Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor make an easy pair, and Pritam's songs help the mood. It runs 142 minutes and is listed as free on Prime Video. Heartbreak, depression and family estrangement come into the story, but the overall feel is bright.

For a sunny, glossy watch, this follows old school friends on a Manali trek, with songs, travel and the tug between wanderlust and settling down. Ideal when children and adults want to watch something together.

The training montages and match-day nerves in this wrestling drama make for a rousing watch, grounded in the true story of the Phogat sisters. Rated U and 161 minutes long, it suits families and anyone who wants a story about girls proving the doubters wrong. The father is harsh at times, but the overall pull of the film is towards pride and determination.

An underdog superhero story with village comedy and Hanuman mythology, dubbed into Hindi from Telugu. Its cheerful petty-thief hero and good-natured humour give it a feel-good energy that is unusual for an action film. Rated U/A, it runs 158 minutes and has fight scenes and a menacing villain. On JioHotstar, look for the Hindi version listed under the name 'Hanuman'.
