This list covers Hindi films you can stream on a standard Netflix India subscription: Hindi originals first, then South Indian blockbusters in their official Hindi versions. Every pick has a Hindi audio track, and each was checked on Netflix's Indian app or site, with the check date shown on each title page. Where Netflix keeps a separate Hindi listing, the pick tells you which one to choose.

Picks are ranked by how well they suit someone opening Netflix tonight and wanting a dependable Hindi film, so recent hits come first, then modern classics, then the dubbed epics. Within each section, broad crowd-pleasers sit above narrower tastes. Films still in cinemas or not yet streaming are left out.

Certificates are the CBFC ratings recorded on each title page; where Netflix shows a different rating, as with the extended cut of Jawan, the pick says so.

Recent Hindi hits

    Laapataa Ladies

    NetflixCBFC U/A124 min

Kiran Rao's swapped-brides comedy is the easiest place to start on Netflix: gentle, funny and only 124 minutes, with a U/A rating that suits most families. It went from a Toronto premiere to 13 Filmfare wins and India's Oscar entry, yet it stays small and rooted in village life. Pick it for social comment on marriage and women's independence without a heavy watch. It does touch on domestic abuse.

    Jawan

Netflix (choose Jawan: Extended Cut for Hindi audio)CBFC U/A169 min

For a crowd-pleaser, Netflix carries Atlee's Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster as Jawan: Extended Cut, which is the listing with Hindi audio. It runs 169 minutes, and the extended cut is rated A on Netflix, although cinemas showed it as U/A. Expect a metro hijacking, heavy violence and a message about farmer debt and failing hospitals. It suits adult fans of big masala action.

    Chhaava

    NetflixCBFC U/A 16+161 min

Vicky Kaushal's Sambhaji epic, with Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, is the biggest recent historical film on the service. It is rated U/A 16+ and runs 161 minutes, with battle scenes and torture that rule it out for younger viewers. Choose it if you like large war dramas about the Maratha Empire, knowing that historians and some families have publicly disputed parts of its portrayal.

  4. 4

    Shaitaan

    NetflixCBFC U/A132 min

For a tense night in, this Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan siege thriller keeps things fairly short at 132 minutes. A family break at a remote farmhouse becomes a fight to free a daughter from a stranger's control. It is the Hindi version of the Gujarati film Vash. The U/A rating undersells it: scenes of a child being harmed make it one for adults and older teens.

    Netflix139 min

Sujoy Ghosh's Netflix original is the pick for viewers who prefer quiet mysteries to chases. Baahubali: The Beginning

Netflix (choose the Hindi Version listing)CBFC U/A158 min

Start Rajamouli's two-part kingdom epic here, choosing the listing marked Hindi Version rather than the Baahubali The Epic recut. Rated U/A and 158 minutes long, it has large war scenes but is a common family pick. The story does not end in this film, so plan on Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, also on Netflix in Hindi. Shetty won the National Film Award for Best Actor.
