The story

In late 1971, Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri takes command of a small company of soldiers at Longewala, a remote post in the Rajasthan desert near the Pakistan border. Among them are a young officer just out of training, a local BSF man who knows the terrain, and men who have left wives, mothers and fiancées behind. When war is declared, word arrives that a large Pakistani armoured column is heading their way, and the outnumbered company must decide whether to hold its ground through the night.

Spoiler-free: only the set-up.

Background

Border is based on the Battle of Longewala, fought in the western sector of the India-Pakistan war of 1971. Sunny Deol's role is based on Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, the officer who commanded the post.
