The story
Botany professor Parimal Tripathi loves playing pranks. He marries Sulekha, who idolises her older sister's husband, Raghavendra Sharma, a self-styled intellectual who insists on pure Hindi. Tired of hearing his praises, Parimal decides to take him on. When Raghavendra asks for a new driver who speaks only correct Hindi, Parimal turns up disguised as 'Pyare Mohan', a talkative chauffeur. With Sulekha and his friends, including English professor Sukumar, he begins a string of practical jokes at Raghavendra's house.

Who it suits
Grandparents, parents and children can all watch this gentle comedy of disguises and wordplay together. It has no violence, though some jokes depend on Hindi language puns.

Background
Chupke Chupke is Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Hindi remake of the 1971 Bengali comedy Chhadmabeshi, which starred Uttam Kumar. Both films are based on a story by Upendranath Ganguly, and the Bengali original was later also remade in Kannada as Joke Falls (2004).
Mukherjee produced the Hindi version with N. C. Sippy. Gulzar wrote the screenplay with D. N. Mukherjee and also wrote the dialogue, S. D. Burman composed the songs and Anand Bakshi wrote the lyrics. The cast pairs Dharmendra with Sharmila Tagore and Amitabh Bachchan with Jaya Bhaduri, with Om Prakash as the brother-in-law at the centre of the prank and Asrani, David, Usha Kiran, Lily Chakravarty and Keshto Mukherjee in support.
The film was released on 11 April 1975. Wikipedia lists Shemaroo Entertainment as its distributor. In May 2026 the full film was uploaded to the NH Studioz YouTube channel, where it is free to watch in India.
