The story

In 1996, police hunting an arms dealer reach a cluster of coastal villages known as the Red Sea, where an old man begins telling them the story of Devara. Years earlier, Devara and his rival Bhaira led the villages' men in smuggling cargo off passing ships. When Devara learns what they have really been carrying, he decides the sea will no longer be used for crime, and turns his fearsome authority on anyone who disobeys. His defiance sets him against Bhaira and the other chieftains, while his gentle son Vara grows up in his shadow.

Who it suits

Best for fans of big, brooding mass action led by NTR Jr., and the first half of a two-part story. Despite the U/A rating, it has heavy, bloody violence, and it runs close to three hours.
