The story
Roy, Adi, Adi's simple-minded brother Manav, and Boman, the spoiled son of a car-obsessed father, are four broke friends whose landlady has just thrown them out for not paying rent. After a botched attempt to sell a painting, they stop at a highway crash where the dying driver, a wanted criminal, tells them he has hidden ₹10 crore in a garden in Goa, under a big 'W'. Inspector Kabir Naik, who has chased that criminal for ten years, arrives and wants the money too, and the race to Goa begins.

Who it suits
A clean, fast-moving road-trip comedy that families can watch together, with almost no romance or songs and plenty of slapstick. It runs a little over two hours, and Vijay Raaz and Sanjay Mishra turn up in memorable side roles.

Background
Dhamaal is inspired by Stanley Kramer's 1963 Hollywood comedy It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. It was directed by Indra Kumar, produced with Ashok Thakeria under Maruti International, written by Paritosh Painter and distributed by Shemaroo Entertainment. Adnan Sami composed the songs.
The film opened in cinemas on 7 September 2007. Wikipedia estimates its gross at about ₹50.73 crore. Taran Adarsh of IndiaFM, Rajeev Masand and Rediff each gave it 3 out of 5, with Masand calling it a "squeaky-clean comedy". Khalid Mohamed of Hindustan Times gave a more mixed review. Rediff singled out Vijay Raaz, as an air traffic controller guiding a plane whose pilot has passed out drunk, and Sanjay Mishra as a dacoit.
It is the first film in the Dhamaal series. Double Dhamaal (2011) brought back the lead cast, and Total Dhamaal (February 2019) returned Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey in a new story.
