The story
Years after the events of Jailer, Muthuvel Pandian has moved with his family to a remote area where nobody knows his past. A smuggling syndicate is shaken by the death of one of its key figures, and an aide is sent to find the killer and recover stolen statues. That hunt threatens the quiet life Muthuvel has built.

Who it suits
Made for fans of Rajinikanth's mass-action films and of the first Jailer. It is rated U/A 16+ and runs about two hours 45 minutes, with heavy violence, so it is not one for younger children.

Background
Jailer 2 is the sequel to Jailer (2023), written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. It was announced with a teaser on 14 January 2025. A June 2026 date was not met; a July 2026 teaser set the release for 15 October 2026.
It opened worldwide on 15 October 2026. Outlook reported a day-one worldwide gross of ₹125.25 crore. The Hindi dub, distributed in North India by Pen Marudhar, also opened on 15 October after the makers denied reports it would skip Hindi, but the national multiplex chains did not play it, reportedly over a four-week streaming window. Prime Video is reported to hold the streaming rights; no OTT date has been announced.
