The story
Nandan Kumar repairs machines at a Mumbai printing press and lives in a chawl with his wife Lata, who never lets him forget their money troubles, and their young son. One night he finds a red suitcase holding crores in cash, lost during a shootout between gangsters. He hides it and tries to spend a little without anyone noticing. But the money belongs to a crooked MLA, and a rival gangster and a corrupt police officer are all hunting for the suitcase.

Who it suits
A light crime comedy for families with older children and anyone who enjoys chases, mix-ups and middle-class money worries played for laughs. It is rated U/A and runs about two and a quarter hours, with some gangster gunplay kept mostly comic.

Background
Lootcase is an original story by Kapil Sawant and director Rajesh Krishnan, known for the web series TVF Tripling, and the title is a pun on suitcase and the Hindi word loot. Fox Star Studios produced it, and filming began in mid-July 2019.
It was set for cinemas on 10 April 2020 but was postponed when the pandemic closed theatres. On 29 June 2020, Disney+ Hotstar named it among the films it would premiere through its Multiplex initiative, and it was released there on 31 July 2020. It now streams on JioHotstar. Wikipedia describes the reviews as generally positive, with praise for the dark humour and for Kunal Khemu. At the 66th Filmfare Awards in March 2021, it received eight nominations and Rajesh Krishnan won Best Debut Director. It was also nominated for Best Film and Best Actress, for Rasika Dugal, at the 2021 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
