Background
The film was first announced as Battle of Galwan, loosely based on a chapter of Shiv Aroor's book India's Most Fearless about the 2020 clash. Apoorva Lakhia directs and Salman Khan produces under Salman Khan Films; Himesh Reshammiya leads a team of composers, and the title song by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal came out on 24 January 2026.
A teaser released for Salman's 60th birthday in December 2025 gave 17 April 2026. The date was dropped for reshoots of about 40 days, and in March 2026 the film was renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace. Hindustan Times reported in October that it had government clearance after changes. At a promotional event on 6 November 2026, Salman announced a 4 December theatrical release, saying the team wanted the visual effects right. Jio Studios is distributing in India.
