Best Hindi family movies to watch together
Hindi family movies to stream in India, grouped for younger children, teenagers and all ages, with certificates, runtimes and content notes.

This list is for evenings when everyone, from children to grandparents, ends up on the same sofa. We have split it into three groups: films that work with younger children, films better suited to watching with teenagers, and older classics that most generations already know or will enjoy discovering.
Every pick has a Hindi audio track, either original or an official dub, and each was checked on the platform's Indian app or website. The check date sits on each title page. Within each group, films are ranked by how comfortably they suit a mixed-age audience, so the gentlest and easiest options come first. Where a film has fight scenes, frightening moments, grief or adult jokes, the note says so.
On certificates: U is suitable for all ages, while U/A means parental guidance for younger children; a few older classics have no certificate listed on our pages, so the notes describe their content instead.

With younger children

Koi... Mil Gaya
YouTube (free, Ultra Bollywood channel)CBFC U157 min
Few Hindi films are built as squarely around children as this one, with a friendly alien, a gang of school kids and plenty of songs. Rated U and running 157 minutes, it gives parents a story about friendship and acceptance while kids enjoy the visitor from space. One caution for sensitive viewers: the lead character is bullied in several scenes. It streams free on YouTube.

Dangal
NetflixCBFC U161 min
A father coaching his daughters to wrestle gives this U-rated drama something for every generation on the sofa: sporting tension for children, and the push and pull of a strict parent for adults. It runs 161 minutes and is based on the real Phogat sisters. The training scenes are tough and the father is hard on the girls, which can start a useful conversation afterwards.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl
NetflixCBFC U112 min
At 112 minutes and rated U, this is the shortest film in this section and one of the easiest to fit into a school night. The story of a girl who wants to fly for the Air Force keeps its war scenes short and puts a warm father-daughter relationship at the centre. It is a natural pick for daughters with big ambitions and the parents cheering them on.
- 4
Hanu-Man
JioHotstar (the Hindi version is listed as 'Hanuman')CBFC U/A158 min
For children who love superheroes, this Telugu hit, dubbed into Hindi, offers one rooted in the Hanuman stories many already know. It mixes village comedy with action and keeps an upbeat tone. Rated U/A at 158 minutes, it has fight scenes and a villain who can be menacing, so younger viewers may want a parent alongside. Search for 'Hanuman' on JioHotstar to find the Hindi version.
With teenagers

Chak De! India
NetflixCBFC U149 min
A coach turning sixteen quarrelling hockey players into a team is ideal for teens who play sport or simply like an underdog story. Rated U and running 149 minutes, it has a title song most families will already know. Parents should know it includes a brawl in a restaurant, harassment of the players and prejudice against the coach over his religion, all of which give older children something to talk about.
- 6
Laapataa Ladies
NetflixCBFC U/A124 min
Two brides swapped on a train is a setup teenagers grasp in seconds, and the comedy that follows keeps all ages laughing while raising real questions about marriage and women's choices. Rated U/A and just 124 minutes, it fits easily into an evening. It briefly touches on domestic abuse, which parents of younger viewers may want to know before pressing play.
- 7
Piku
YouTube (free, Sony WAH channel; this upload runs about 118 minutes)CBFC U/A122 min
Watching this with parents or grandparents tends to land, because the comedy comes from a grown daughter juggling a cranky, health-obsessed father. Rated U/A with a 122-minute runtime, it is gentle and talky rather than plot-heavy. A lot of the jokes revolve around digestion and constipation, which teenagers usually find funnier than younger children do. It streams free on YouTube.
- 8
M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story
Prime VideoCBFC U190 min
Cricket-mad teenagers get a story about a small-town boy weighing a safe railway job against a long-shot sporting dream, a choice many will recognise from their own career worries. It is rated U, but at 190 minutes it is better as a weekend watch. The film spends more time on Dhoni's early struggles and relationships than on matches, so non-fans in the family can follow it too.
- 9
Bhool Bhulaiyaa
NetflixCBFC U/A154 min
Families who want a little fright with their laughs can start here. Rated U/A and running 154 minutes, it keeps the haunted-palace scares mild for most of its length, with Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav supplying the comedy. The final act has a few intense scenes, which is why it sits with the teenage picks rather than the ones for younger children.

Baahubali: The Beginning
Netflix (choose the title marked Hindi Version)CBFC U/A158 min
For a teen who wants spectacle, this dubbed Telugu epic of waterfalls, palaces and battles makes a strong shared watch. Rated U/A at 158 minutes, it contains large-scale war violence, so it is better for older children. The story continues in Baahubali 2, so plan a second night. On Netflix, pick the Hindi Version listing; Baahubali The Epic is a separate recut.
All ages classics

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
Netflix189 min
The film many Indian parents grew up with is still a gentle choice for a joint family evening: a romance that insists on winning the family's blessing rather than running away. It runs about 189 minutes, and grandparents will likely hum along to the songs. No certificate is listed on our title page, but the content is mild, centred on love, tradition and family approval.
- 12
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Netflix185 min
Summer camp, college romance and a little girl playing matchmaker make this 1998 film easy for children to enjoy and nostalgic for parents. At a little over three hours, it needs a long evening. The story begins with a loss and deals with grief throughout, which is worth knowing if younger children are watching. No certificate is listed on our title page.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...
Netflix210 min
Built for the whole household, this Karan Johar drama covers fathers and sons, brothers, and two very different sisters, with big songs to break up the emotion. At about 210 minutes it is the longest pick here, so splitting it over two evenings works well. The content stays family-friendly, centred on duty, class and parental expectations. No certificate is listed on our title page.

Nadiya Ke Paar
YouTube (free, Rajshri's official channel)143 min
Grandparents who remember the 1982 release may enjoy sharing this Rajshri village drama, the story later reworked as Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!. At 143 minutes, with Ravindra Jain's songs and Bhojpuri-flavoured dialogue, it moves at an unhurried pace that suits relaxed viewing more than restless kids. It streams free on Rajshri's official YouTube channel. No certificate is listed on our title page.
