The story
The five-member Kataria family of old Ghaziabad is short of money. To bring in extra income, Sanjay, the head of the house, decides to rent out a room, which means his 21-year-old daughter Naina has to share a room with her younger brother Bharat, and neither of them is happy about it. At the same time, Sanjay and his wife Sushma face pressure from his younger brother to sell the ancestral home after their father's death. The arrival of a new tenant tests the family's patience and exposes the gaps between generations.

Who it suits
Made for viewers who like warm, everyday family stories in the vein of *Gullak*, with sibling fights, money worries and parents trying to hold things together. ZEE5 rates it U/A 13+, so it works as a family watch with teenagers.

Background
Bakaiti is a ZEE5 original produced by Dice Media, the digital content arm of Pocket Aces, and created and produced by Aditi Shrivastava. Rajesh Tailang and Sheeba Chaddha play Sanjay and Sushma Kataria, with Tanya Sharma and Aaditya Shukla as their children.
The seven-episode first season, directed by Ameet Guptha, was released on ZEE5 on 1 August 2025 and received mixed-to-positive reviews, with The Times of India and India Today both rating it 3 out of 5. Season 2, directed by Samar Iqbal, had its trailer released on 18 September 2026 and premiered on 25 September 2026 with seven more episodes. Set about a year later, it follows Sanjay taking on a shady eviction case, Sushma starting a home boutique and Naina studying in Mumbai. The show streams in Hindi, and ZEE5 also lists Tamil and Kannada audio for season 1.
