The story
In Delhi, school backbenchers Hunny and Choocha want to get into a local college but lack the marks. Choocha dreams of winning lottery numbers, and Hunny can decode them. Through the college guard Pandit they team up with Zafar, a struggling musician whose father needs costly treatment, and Lali, a sweet-shop owner's son who wants a college seat to be near his girlfriend. Short of money to back the scheme, they approach Bholi Punjaban, a local gangster, and Lali puts up his father's shop papers as security.

Background
Fukrey was written by Vipul Vig and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment. It was shot around Delhi, including at Miranda House, where most of the college scenes were filmed. Richa Chadha's Bholi Punjaban is loosely based on Sonu Punjaban. Ram Sampath composed the music, including "Ambarsariya", sung by Sona Mohapatra.
The film opened in cinemas on 14 June 2013 and, after a slow start, became a sleeper hit. Wikipedia reports domestic collections of about ₹36 crore against a budget of about ₹8 crore, and PVR brought it back to cinemas in September 2013. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama rated it 3.5 out of 5, NDTV 3 out of 5 and CNN-IBN 2.5 out of 5.
It is the first film in the Fukrey series, so start here. It was followed by Fukrey Returns (8 December 2017), Fukrey 3 (28 September 2023) and the animated children's series Fukrey Boyzzz.
