The story
After India revokes Article 370 in 2019, a vengeful Pakistani general hires Outfit X, a private terror group run by Jim, a former Indian agent who has turned against his country. Pathaan, a RAW field agent recovering from a mission in Myanmar, sets up a small unit that recruits officers forced into retirement. Tracking Jim's plans across Dubai, Spain and Russia, he crosses paths with Rubai, an ex-ISI agent whose loyalties are hard to read, as a codeword, Raktbeej, points to a weapon that could devastate India.

Who it suits
Viewers who want big-screen globe-trotting spy action, chases and fistfights will find plenty here. It is rated U/A with frequent gunfights and brutal hand-to-hand combat, so it is better for teens and adults than young children.

Background
Pathaan is the fourth film in Yash Raj Films' YRF Spy Universe, after Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) and War (2019), and it is the first to bring characters from those films together; Salman Khan appears as Tiger. It was made on a reported budget of ₹250 crore.
The film opened in theatres on 25 January 2023, over the Republic Day weekend, in Hindi with Tamil and Telugu dubs, and was the first Indian film released in the ICE format. Prime Video premiered an extended version on 22 March 2023 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. According to Wikipedia, it earned ₹106 crore worldwide on its first day, became the first original Hindi film to net over ₹400 crore in India, and finished with about ₹1,050 crore worldwide. At the 69th Filmfare Awards it received 16 nominations and won Best Female Playback Singer for Shilpa Rao ("Besharam Rang"). A sequel is in development.
