The story
Major Kabir Dhaliwal, one of India's most decorated agents, is assigned to eliminate a terrorist but instead kills a senior RAW officer and goes rogue. The agency turns to Captain Khalid Rahmani, a soldier Kabir once trained and accepted into his elite team despite the stain of Khalid's father's past. As Khalid follows Kabir across several countries, flashbacks show how the two men first worked together, and Khalid must decide how far he will go to stop his mentor.

Who it suits
Built for viewers who like stylish, stunt-heavy spy action with car and bike chases and hand-to-hand fights. Rated U/A with plenty of gunplay, it is better suited to teens and adults, and it is the starting point for the Kabir storyline continued in War 2.

Background
War is the third film in Yash Raj Films' YRF Spy Universe, set after Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). Produced by Aditya Chopra, it was shot under the working title Fighters and made on a reported budget of ₹150 crore, plus about ₹20 crore for publicity.
The film opened on 2 October 2019, on Gandhi Jayanti, with Tamil and Telugu dubs. According to Wikipedia, its ₹53.35 crore first day was then the highest opening for a Hindi film, and it grossed ₹475.62 crore worldwide, the highest for any Indian film in 2019. Hrithik Roshan's Kabir later appeared in a post-credits scene in Tiger 3 and in Alpha (2026). A sequel, War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and co-starring N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Kiara Advani, was released on 14 August 2025.
