This list covers Hindi horror you can stream in India: folk horror, possession and haunted-house films and an anthology, followed by a separate group of horror-comedies for viewers who want laughs with their scares. Every pick has a Hindi audio track, and we checked each one on the platform's Indian app or site; the check date is on each title page. Bramayugam is the only dubbed film; the rest were made in Hindi.
We ranked the straight horror picks by how well they deliver dread and atmosphere, and the horror-comedies by how easy they are to start with, keeping sequels after the films they follow. Kaali Kheti is left out because it has not been released yet.
On certificates: Tumbbad and Go Goa Gone are A; Bulbbul, Ghost Stories, Roohi and Bramayugam carry U/A 16+ platform ratings; the rest are U/A, or U/A 13+ on Prime Video in the case of 1920. Check the notes before watching with children.

Tumbbad

The first film to try if you want Hindi horror that properly unsettles. Spread over three decades from 1918, it follows a man whose greed pulls him back to a rain-soaked Maharashtra village and a treasure tied to a cursed deity, Hastar. Its fear comes from myth, mud and darkness, not sudden shocks. The A certificate reflects grim imagery and violence, so keep it away from children. It runs 108 minutes.

Shaitaan

A tight home-invasion horror film adapted from the Gujarati Vash. A family's farmhouse break goes wrong when a friendly stranger they let inside gains an occult hold over their daughter, and the parents are cut off from outside help. Ajay Devgn, R. Madhavan and Jyothika lead. It is rated U/A but the scenes of a girl being used and hurt are disturbing, so skip it with younger children. It runs 132 minutes.

Bulbbul

Anvita Dutt's short Gothic tale is for adults who like folklore and slow-building dread. In 1880s Bengal, a man returns from London to his family's mansion, where his brother's wife now runs the house and villagers blame a string of deaths on a chudail. Tripti Dimri leads. It runs 94 minutes, and Netflix rates it U/A 16+ for abuse, sexual violence and bloody killings.

A traditional haunted-house and possession story for viewers who like slow period scares more than blood. An architect and his new wife move into a manor in Palampur where two architects before him died, and she starts to sense something in the house. Vikram Bhatt directs, and Adah Sharma made her debut here. It runs 129 minutes; Prime Video lists it as U/A 13+, though the exorcism scenes are intense.

Ghost Stories

Four unrelated short horror films from Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar, so you can sample different styles in one sitting: a lonely nursing job, an uneasy babysitting stint, a near-empty town and a husband who still talks to his dead grandmother. It is for adults; Netflix rates it U/A 16+, and it includes cannibalism and body horror. It runs 144 minutes.

Bramayugam
SonyLIV (choose Hindi in the audio menu)139 min
The one dubbed pick here, included because the Hindi track sits on the same SonyLIV title as the Malayalam original. Shot in black and white, it traps a 17th-century folk singer in a decaying mansion whose master will not let him leave, and Mammootty heads the cast. Fans of Tumbbad should try it. It runs 139 minutes; SonyLIV rates it U/A 16+ for strong violence and language.

The easiest way into horror-comedy, and a gentle start for teens new to scary films. In the town of Chanderi, a spirit is said to carry off men who go out at night during a yearly festival, so a local tailor and his friends start asking questions. Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi star. It is rated U/A, runs 127 minutes and should come before Stree 2.

Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank

Watch it after Stree. The friends from Chanderi are back, this time up against Sarkata, a headless demon who targets independent women, and the story ties the creature to the town's past. It suits friends and families with teens who enjoy horror played for laughs. It is rated U/A, runs 149 minutes, and belongs to Maddock Films' wider horror-comedy universe.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa

Priyadarshan's remake of the Malayalam Manichitrathazhu. A couple settles into an old Varanasi palace with a legend about Manjulika, a dancer wronged long ago, and an unconventional psychiatrist arrives to work out what is happening. Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Paresh Rawal star. The scares are mild, so it works with older children. It is U/A and runs 154 minutes, with a tense final act.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

A standalone follow-up, so you can watch it without the first film. Kartik Aaryan's carefree traveller poses as a psychic, Rooh Baba, inside a long-sealed Rajasthan mansion, with Tabu, Kiara Advani, Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra in the cast. It suits a group or family night with teenagers who like slapstick between jump scares. It is U/A and runs 143 minutes, and a few possession scenes may scare younger teens.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3

Rooh Baba is back, now a con man paid to clear a haunted palace in Bengal for a royal family, and Vidya Balan returns as Manjulika from the 2007 film, joined by Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri. It suits fans of the first two films and families with teens who like festive horror-comedy with songs. It is U/A and runs 158 minutes, with some intense scenes.

Pick this for small-town banter over real scares. Two hired kidnappers hide a bride who turns out to be possessed by a spirit, and each falls for a different side of her. Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma lead. It was once promoted as a follow-up to Stree but is not part of that series. Netflix rates it U/A 16+; it runs 134 minutes.

Go Goa Gone

The only adults-only horror-comedy here. Three friends on holiday in Goa go to a rave on a remote island and find the next morning that most of the guests have become zombies, while Saif Ali Khan turns up as a Russian gangster named Boris. It suits viewers who like cheeky dialogue more than frights. It is rated A for drugs, strong language and gore, and runs 112 minutes.
